Job Description
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will be a key member of the Transfusion Service within the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Primary duties include:
*Patient transfusion testing and immunology problem work-ups
*Computer data entry and retrieval
*Quality control testing, quality assurance activities, and donor quality assurance
*Provide transfusion support of the patients of UCLA Medical Center including trauma and transplant patients
*Record and review test results for accuracy and completeness
*Respond to telephone requests for information and test results and maintain laboratory records
*Requires a current, California Clinical Lab Scientist License
*Two years of recent clinical laboratory experience in a Blood Bank, preferred
*Experience with MTS gel methodology and solid phase testing, preferred
*Ability to accurately record and collate lab data, and to draw appropriate conclusions
*Must have manual dexterity to perform procedures and maintain instruments, such as pipettes
*Effective listening skills to understand tasks, duties and responsibilities
*Ability to perform multiple tasks under conditions of frequent interruptions, distractions, and heavy workload while maintaining equanimity, accuracy, and productivity
*Ability to work in an environment with variations in temperature and instrument noise
*Ability to establish and maintain cooperative, professional working relationships
*Ability to respond positively to necessary changes in work schedule with cooperation
